Name: Phoebe Caulfield
Age: 10
Physical Features: Sort of red hair, short in the summertime and longer in the wintertime. Nice, pretty little ears. Roller-skate skinny.
Personality: Pretty and smart. If you tell her something, she knows exactly what the hell you're talking about. You can take her anywhere with you. She can be a little too affectionate sometimes. She's very emotional. She writes books all the time. She'd interrupt you all the time.
Quotes: Holden: "You know that song, 'If a body catch a body comin' through the rye'?..."
Phoebe: "It's 'If a body meet a body coming through the rye'!... It's a poem. By Robert Burns."
(Holden got the poem wrong and Phoebe corrected him. They way Holden thought it went goes with his dream about being the "catcher in the rye".)
"Whenja get home?"
(Phoebe says this when she wakes up and sees Holden in her room. If you can imagine the tone of voice she uses when she says it, then you can tell that she really loves her brother.)
"Listen. Mother said you'd be home Wednesday," she said. "She said Wednesday."
(I think it's obvious that Phoebe is confused as to why Holden is home early. I think she knows something is wrong and knows that Holden did something that he shouldn't have. Look out Holden, she's onto you!)
"Gimme the pieces," she said. "I'm saving them."
(Even though Holden broke the record, she still wants to keep the pieces because she knows her brother was thinking of her and she will still treasure it even if it's broken., because it was from somebody special. It's the thought that counts.)
"You did get kicked out! You did!" old Phoebe said. Then she hit me on the leg with her fist. She gets very fisty when she feels like it. "You did! Oh, Holden!" She had her hand on her mouth and all. She gets very emotional, I swear to God.
(Phoebe is obviously upset about Holden getting kicked out of school... again. She worries so much about her brother. She wants the best for him and want's him to do the best he can do. Holden! Quit making you sister sad! -smacks Holden in the head-)
"Daddy'll kill you."
(She's really worried about how their parents are going to take the news of Holden getting kicked out of school... again. I think she doesn't seriously think their dad is going to kill him... I hope not. Holden, you should get down on your hands and knees and bow down to your lovely sister! Pay for making her worry! -makes holden bow down on his hands and knees- I feel like a tyrant... Oh well.)
